Chris LaBranche signed up for a career day field trip to get out of classes his senior year in high school. "I had no intentions of going and looking for work or a career," he said.

But the CNC machine and other industrial equipment on display as well as the conversations with machinists and others manufacturing employees caught his attention. Then Asnuntuck Community College staffers told him of the generous scholarships and paid internships available to their manufacturing technology students. By the time he learned of the 90% employment rate for the graduates of the one-year certificate program, LaBranche was set on a manufacturing career.

    • What’s Behind the Connecticut-Made Brand?

Dymotek’s customers are bringing some of their manufacturing work back to the U.S.

Efficiency and cutting-edge technology may be indispensible to Made in Connecticut, but so is technical expertise. “A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person,” said Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. “You earn reputation by trying to do hard things well.” That’s exactly what Dymotek Corp. in Ellington is trying to do. It brands itself as one of only about six companies in all of the U.S. with the capability to inject two or more very different materials, like plastic and silicone, into one mold. Here’s the catch: the materials shouldn’t mix, but they’ve got to get along.

    • Dymotek: Setting a Safe Course Through Rough Economic Waters

      Article By Dianna Brodine

As a relatively young injection molder, an outside observer might not expect Dymotek to be prepared to weather the current economic recession. It’s often those with a long history of service and decades of experience that survive when the waters get rough. Dymotek, however, has prepared itself well for the turbulence currently affecting the molding industry. With a distinctive culture that encourages employee involvement in evaluating the company, a workforce that is ‘absolutely fanatical’ about customer service, and a willingness to invest in its customers, the Ellington, Connecticut company is sailing through the current economic storms.
